We walked, we connected, and most importantly, we raised our voices for kidney health!

The Bamenda Kidney Health Campaign ’22, hosted by the My Kidney My Life organization, brought together hundreds of community members, healthcare advocates, and families for an unforgettable day of action, education, and solidarity.

Stepping Up for a Crucial Cause

Under the vibrant morning sun, participants of all ages gathered to lace up their sneakers and walk the streets of Bamenda. The energy was electric as banners went up, feet hit the pavement, and the collective chant for health awareness echoed through the community.

But this wasn’t just a walk for fitness it was a walk with a profound mission. Kidney disease is often called a “silent killer” because it can progress without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. By taking over the streets, our goal was to break the silence and make kidney health a household conversation.

Impact Beyond the Footsteps

The event didn’t end at the finish line. Thanks to our dedicated team of medical volunteers and partners, the My Kidney My Life team turned the venue into a hub of vital health resources.

Here is what we achieved together on the ground:

  • Free Health Screenings: Hundreds of participants received free blood pressure and blood sugar checks two crucial markers for identifying early risks of kidney strain.

  • One-on-One Consultations: Walkers had the chance to sit down with healthcare professionals to discuss preventative habits, hydration, and nutrition.

  • Empowering Education: We distributed hundreds of educational pamphlets detailing the early warning signs of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and practical lifestyle changes to protect your kidneys.

A Heartfelt Thank You

An event of this scale is only possible because of a dedicated community. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the local authorities of Bamenda, our incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, our sponsors, and every single individual who came out to walk with us.

Your steps are helping us fund early screening programs, support patients navigating kidney care, and continue spreading awareness where it is needed most.

Missed the event but still want to help? You don’t have to wait for the next walk to make a difference. You can support our ongoing mission by donating, signing up to volunteer, or simply sharing our educational resources with someone you love. Together, we can save lives one kidney at a time.
